Expeditionary Learning Model
We Are Crew, Not PassengersWe strive to create classroom communities that are caring and encouraging to all students. Students engage in daily team building and cooperative activities that foster collaboration and meaningful relationships between peers, and between students and their teachers. Students are encouraged to share their thoughts and opinions, and take risks in their learning.
Parents are part of our crew, too! Please let us know how you want to get involved this year. There will be a lot of opportunities to engage in and outside of the classroom. Crew is developed in the following ways in the classroom:
|
Rigorous CurriculumOur curriculum is integrated and multi-disciplinary to reach a variety of standards and objectives simultaneously. Our curriculum is developmentally appropriate and differentiated to meet all students needs.
Math- we will be using the Bridges curriculum in Denver Public Schools. Reading- we will have three blocks of literacy:

Real World LearningExpeditionary Learning is highly engaging for students because they are immersed into a collaborative learning project that involves critical thinking, problem solving, and research.
Expeditionary Learning is hands-on and allows children to ask questions, take risks, make mistakes and grow. It also requires students to speak and share ideas, therefore, growing social-emotionally and in their language skills. Expeditionary Learning allows students to learn 21st Century skills (e.g. collaboration, inquiry, creativity, etc.) that will be useful throughout their schooling. Lastly, Expeditionary learning provides opportunities for students to learn outdoors, outside of the classroom which benefits students' health and level of engagement and inquiry, and helps instill a love of learning. |
